UCL Stands for Justice is a coalition of students, academic staff and professionals at UCL advocate for a campus that stands on the right side of history.
Since Thursday 2nd May, Student have been demonstrating their democratic right to protest by camping on UCL’s main quad to draw attention to the institution’s complicitly in crimes against humanityin regards to the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.
Today, students declare their demands to provost with an die-in on the famous Portico to mark the 76th anniversary of the Nakba. The Nakba (literally “catastrophe”) was a series of terror attacks when Zionist forces forcibly expelled 750,000 Palestinians and destroyed more than 500 towns and villages.
“On the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, in light on Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza, we shroud ourselves and lie on the Portico steps to pay our respects to those killed in Gaza, something UCL has consistently failed to do. We precede this visual statement with a reading of our open letter to the Provost, which outlines the three demands of the encampment.”
The Students demands are 1. for the University College London to divest from companies and arms manufacturers complicit in the Israeli genocide of Palestinians. 2. That University College London condemn Israeli war crimes in Palestine, including actions that violate international humanitarian law. 3. For University College London to pledge in the rebuilding of Gaza’s destroyed education sector, establish links with Palestinian universities, and expand scholarships for Palestinian students.
